About Theo Vecera

Theo has been involved in the community since 1990 working with Maria Ausiliatrice Parish and the community at large. His passion is with youth, offering them different types of activities, developing thier leadership skills and helping them to express their skills and talents. His motto is "No one is invisible. Everyone is someone." Theo also enjoys providing opportunites for adults to give back to the community. Theo has co-created the YLC (a dream of his for R.D.P) in 1997 and continues to work there. His dreams continue to evolve as he is constantly looking at how we as a community, can reach out to more youth, adults and families.

Theo is happily married (5 years) to Berta Ricciuti and has three children, Justin Michael, Charleze and Kylee Luv. They are expecting their fourth child in August 2010.

Major experiences and accomplishments:

  • D.E.C’s in Creative Arts and Community Leadership Training.
  • Developed the concept and co-created the YLC.
  • Responsible of camp “Happy Dayz” for the last 17 years.
  • Received an award from the Chamber of Commerce for community involvement and impact.
  • Created the Smiley Bunch Kindergarten camp.
  • Organized various youth and community initiatives (retreats, sports, outings, events).
  • Created the Teen Spirit summer program.
  • Helped organize various youth rallies in Montreal .
  • Helped organize and set forth the “Night Intervention Program” with the City of Montreal .
  • Created various youth groups.
  • Participated in two World Youth Day in the Philippines and Toronto .
  • Worked as a Pastoral animator for 3 years.
  • First male to work in the elementary daycare system.
  • Coordinated the Maria Ausiliatrice catechism program for 3 years.
  • Produced video productions.
  • Accomplished videographer.
  • Worked as a radio disk jockey at the college and university level.
  • Worked as the station manager for the Dawson College radio station.
  • Represented the youth and community voice in various government, school and city meetings and conferences.
  • Assisted youth in developing a stronger self-image and presence.
  • Appeared in television, radio and newsprint for various youth projects.
  • Created the concept of the “Friendship Games” to promote harmony and non-violence.
  • Offered his experience and training to help start-up and support other youth projects in the City of Montreal .
  • Organized soccer games between the local police force and teenagers to help develop a better trust and communication.
  • Initiated the cutting of tree branches at Samuel-Morse Park to discourage drug abuse and to promote cleanliness for families to enjoy.
  • Organized fundraising activities to help raise money for other youth organizations.
  • Developed leadership training programs and animation kits.
